So some of you may have read my previous post regarding a comparison of a Canon T4i and a Nikon D7000 in the recent post Canon vs Nikon; Match Up!! From that post you likely gathered that I am camera shopping. I have it narrowed down, and this is where I am at:

Nikon D7100 vs Canon 70D

These cameras are both in the prosumer range, and offer a great variety of options. Lets look at the specs:

Specs and Photos are provided by: B&H Photo Video

So I know this is a bunch of technical jargon that is hard to understand. At the end of the day it means that both of these cameras takes great pictures.

The 70D looks like it is geared more toward the DSLR film folks (i.e me), while the D7100 is more toward the photo enthusiast (i.e. me. See the delima?).

The difference in price of these two is negligible ($1196.95 for the D7100 and 1199.00 for the 70D from B&H), and I have access to decent glass for both Nikon and Canons, so these specs are going to have to make the difference for me.

Biggest differences that I can see are: D7100 has bigger mega pixels (so what?), 70D has a touch swivel screen (the same used on the T4i which is really nice), Dual Card slots on the D7100 (super nice to have), much better movie modes and options on the 70D (for someone like myself, this a huge deal).

The one thing that I see, that can possibly sway me is the ISO range, and I had to look at it twice to be sure that I read it correctly. D7100 - ISO 100-6400, 70D - ISO 100-12800. I can not believe that there is that much of difference in the ISO ranges on these cameras, and traditionally, I would have thought it would have been the other way around. Question is though, how does the ISO range stack up. Wish there was some way I could test these before buying to really drill it down.

What do you think, the ISO range worth it or not? Leave your comments below....
